<p> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; color: rgb(73, 73, 73); line-height: 20px; ">Islamabad:Government could fight religious extremism by improving educational opportunities and pace up rehabilitation process in the Swat Valley damaged by militants, said speakers at a seminar on Saturday.<br /> The seminar entitled ‘Islamic Extremism and education’ was organised by Individualland Pakistan, a non-governmental organisation.<br /> Individualland Executive Director Gulmina Bilal presided over the meeting. Adnan Zeb, Jamal Akbar, Shaukat Ali Ashraf, Fahad ul Hassan, Zeeshan Khan, Ehtisham and people from other walks of life participated in the discussion.<br /> They said that extremism could be tackled only “through education with the more enlightened perspectives on the Islamic teachings. Terrorism threatening Pakistan has its roots in the misinterpretation of Islamic teachings, they added. Speakers said that education institutions could make a significant contribution to restoring the image of Islam as an enlightened and progressive way of life. Government need to construct educational institution and schools destroyed blown up by Taliban as soon as possible, they said.<br /> They said that extremists mostly target illiterate people for fulfilling their agenda. “To equip people with education government need to provide free education system”, they said. They said that modern education system should be introduced in the country. Participants said that along with construction of education institutions there is dire need to rebuild houses destroyed during the operation. Government needs to provide all basic facilities to the people of war hit areas, they said.<br /> Meanwhile, panellists at another seminar said government need to be focused on the eradication of root causes of extremism and terrorism including poverty, lack of education, unemployment and injustice as well as make efforts for promotion religious pluralism and interfaith harmony in order to bring normalcy in the country.<br /> There is dire need of abolishment of poverty, illiteracy, injustice, unemployment and unresolved political disputes because all this collectively give birth to extremism and terrorism” speakers said in a day long discussion entitled “Root causes of terrorism” organised by Individualland a non government organization. “We need to fight against the causes of extremism as well as need to make efforts for creating tolerance for other”, they said.<br /> Gulmina Bilal Executive Director Individualland presided over the meeting. Zeeshan Khan, Zulfiqar, Fahad, Shuakat Ali Ashraf and people from different walks of life participated in the discussion.<br /> They said that there is a need to bring harmony in equity and wealth. “Islam proposes an economic system which provides harmony in wealth and equity,” they said.<br /> Speakers said that rulers also needs to clear miss-perceptions among the Muslims that Islam was being targeted, while the West felt that Islam is a religion of militancy, extremism and intolerance.<br /> Speakers said that like any religion Islam preaches moderation, justice and equality and does not preach extremism and militancy.” “Islam does not profess hatred or militancy and is not in conflict with democracy and modernism,” they said.<br /> They said that military has conducted successful operation against extremists but it not necessary for our leader needs to rely on the use of forces alone. “Our leaders need to start active working for discovering ways and means to curb the causes of extremists and terrorism in the country”, they said. Speakers said, “Our leaders need to make efforts for creating religious pluralism and interfaith harmony in order to defeat terrorism.”</span></p>
