<p> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: rgb(102, 102, 102); ">This course will explore the recent story of Muslim migration and settlement in Britain within the framework of historical links often termed as ‘Islam’ and the ‘West’.</span></p> <p class="InternalPageFonts" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight: normal; color: rgb(102, 102, 102); font-size: 12px; ">This one-day course offers a well-rounded and inter-disciplinary introduction to a range of questions and predicaments – in areas such as law, media, gender, education and policy – that have emerged as Muslim presence has increased in Britain. Discussions around the historical, ideological and economic roots of Muslim identity formation will constitute a substantial part of the course.</p> <p class="InternalPageFonts" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight: normal; color: rgb(102, 102, 102); font-size: 12px; ">The course will consider Muslim historical traditions and Western cultural frameworks, to explore the different ideas of what it means to be a 'Muslim in the West'.
