Description

First of all, most students don’t even why they are studying to start with. We spend our half of the life as a student. We go to school, college and then university. We spend a great deal of resources on our education. Still, we don’t even know the purpose of education. Well, that’s discussion for some other day. Today we are going to discuss the part of student life where he/ she has mental maturity of taking decision and knowing the difference of right and wrong.

This phase come after one has completed about 10 – 12 years of education. A student should know by this time why he/ she is studying and what field of study to pursue further. By field of study, I mean the subject or majors that student will graduate and most probably make career in. A student should know what they find more interesting Computer Sciences, Mathematics or Medical etc. Only then right study field can be selected.

Students should consult a student in same field or career counselor instead of asking their parents, seniors or relatives. Most students choose a study field which they heard from someone that its beneficial or what their parents wanted them to be. Selecting wrong study field can end up to a lifetime of regret. In this article, I have shared the cons and all difficulties you have to face if chosen a wrong study field.

SEE ALSO: How Many Study Abroad Destinations Are There in Europe? Here See All Choices You Have and Their Ranks

No Fun in Study

Let’s say you have selected a field that someone told you to. Even if that field is very beneficial in future or have a scope, it still won’t be good for you. It may be ok till school level where you just memorize everything. In higher education, it is important to understand a subject to its core with complete concepts. It requires concentration. If you don’t like what you are studying, it’s no fun for you thus difficult for you to concentrate.

Study is very easy if you are enjoying it. If you have selected the wrong study field, it will be hard for you put interest in it. In such cases, students have to work very hard and it mostly includes just memorization instead of completely absorbing the concepts. Worst thing, you don’t get to enjoy the most fun part of your life – student life.

Waste of Time

If you are not studying the way it’s meant to be, you are just wasting time. Anyone can pass the exams even if they don’t study much. But education is not about passing the test. It’s about learning and developing skills. Student life is supposed to be a creative and fun time. You are going to have to spend more time on study and it will still be a waste of time because it is not what you want and it most probably won’t benefit you much in future.

SEE ALSO: What Made Paris 2nd Best City for International Students? See All Great Things About this City

No Special Skills

If you don’t study a subject with its deep concepts, you won’t be able to learn much from it. It is specially the case in technical courses. Students who don’t like their study often end up with no skills even after studying for years. I know some examples from my own life. I studied BS Computer Sciences where programming is our major skill. Many of friends who don’t like this course have somehow passed exams even with good grades but they don’t know programming thus unskilled. Only programmers in my class are those who actually like their study field.

Waste of Resources

We all know how expensive education is. Moreover, it takes up our whole life. The most important assets for a man are Money and Time. You require both for education and if you still don’t learn anything from it and not even having fun then you have definitely wasted these resources. You can do a lot more with these resources in your life particularly for your own development.

You Hate Your Job

One usually makes career in the field that they have studied. After all, every job requires you to have to have skill and knowledge. The only skills one gets, is what they studied. If you studied Computer Sciences, so you will most probably end up a programmer at some software house. If you didn’t like your student life in this field, believe me, there is a big surprise waiting for you in professional life. In professional life, you have to take serious responsibilities. Those who like their field, will enjoy their job.

On the other hand, same field will become more big of a problem for them if one doesn’t like it. You have to take responsibility for what you do. Unable to perform any good, you will hate your job like many people who already do. The worst part is that you can’t even leave a job because it is your living.

SEE ALSO: Here is Complete Guide for You to Study in Europe for Free of Cost

How to Make it Right?

First of all, try to select the right study field. If you think you have chosen the wrong field then do something about it as soon as possible. First try to see if you can develop interest in what you are studying already. If no, then it’s time to leave it. The sooner you leave it and start what you like the lesser you will have to loose.

If you are in student life, change the field even if you have to start the new course all over. If you are now in your professional life and don’t like the field, it is more difficult for you but one can’t spend whole life like this. Try to learn some new skill that you have interest in without leaving your job. Take second time or weekend course of the field you do like. When you think that you have learned enough to work professionally in that new field then start searching for jobs in it. You will have to start a new career with low wage or even unpaid internship but you will progress rapidly in that field because you will enjoy working hard in it.

<span style="font-family: "courier new", courier, monospace;">Usama Ahmed Awan

<span style="font-family: "times new roman", times, serif;">The Editor of StudyAbroad.pk, Usama is a BZU studied Software Engineer, now a Teacher, Article Writer, Educational Counselor and Journalist.
