<div> </div> <div> <h1 align="center"> <span style="font-size:26px !important;"><span style="color:#ff8c00;"><strong>Say NO to Fraternity and Sororities! Why You Should Not Join Greek Houses</strong></span></span></h1> </div> <div> </div> <div> <span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">As cool as it may sound to join a house where everyone wears same kind of clothes, have mutual interests, play, work, study, party together and create a strong social network; I don’t recommend it. In order to understand you should know what Greek House Fraternity and Sororities are. Here see <a href="https://studyabroad.pk/news-event/what-are-greek-houses-fraternity-and-sororities-in-foreign-universities-4749" target="_blank"><span style="color:#0000ff;">What are Greek Houses Fraternity and Sororities in Foreign Universities</span></a>.</span></span></div> <div> </div> <div> <span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Fraternity and Sororities are traditional groups with an accommodation of their own in every university with their chapter. Usually, people recommend to join Greek houses because this way you participate in many activities and also build a big and strong social network that is really helpful for your career. At least this was the purpose when first Greek houses started. They wanted to have a place for students with mutual purposes who could share with each other and live a life they desire.</span></span></div> <div> </div> <div> <span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Today’s fraternities and sororities have different perspectives and purposes. A lot of students want to join fraternities or sororities so they could live like them, get other’s attention and do what they are most famous for, ‘parties’. But that is not all to it. Everything comes with pros and cons. In this case, there are mostly cons. For a students from eastern countries or a Muslim student, it is just too much.</span></span></div> <div> </div> <div> <hr /> </div> <h2> <span style="color:#ff8c00;"><span style="font-size:24px !important;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><strong>It Gets Really Expensive</strong></span></span></span></h2> <div> <span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">First problem with joining a Greek house is that it will make sure to financially broke you. There are a lot of time and places where you will have to spend money while in a fraternity or sorority after all you are a part of team of now that runs the house. It all starts where you first have to pay the joining fee and after that to complete the kit or codes specified to house and you all the parties, they are throwing them though, a student from my country Pakistan, won’t necessarily be attending these.</span></span></div> <div> </div> <div> <span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">· <strong>SEE ALSO:</strong> <em><a href="https://studyabroad.pk/news-event/most-funny-and-weird-university-societies-you-must-join-while-studying-abroad-4695" target="_blank"><span style="color:#0000ff;">Most Funny and Weird University Societies You Must Join </span></a></em></span></span></div> <div> </div> <div> <hr /> </div> <h2> <span style="color:#ff8c00;"><span style="font-size:24px !important;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><strong>Taking Responsibilities</strong></span></span></span></h2> <div> <span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Joining a Greek house is not just fun and enjoying but you also have to take responsibilities. Since you are practically the management, you will have to take to care of it and all the activities and campaigns of the house. The complaint I have heard most is the cleaning they have to do after a party. Alcohol is used excessively in such parties and you will be the one cleaning if from floor and all around the house.</span></span></div> <div> </div> <div> <hr /> </div> <h2> <span style="font-size:24px !important;"><span style="color:#ff8c00;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><strong>Bad to Society</strong></span></span></span></h2> <div> <span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Greed houses are considered and are bad to societies. Most of what fraternities and sororities now do is just waste time in <img alt="" src="/ckfinder/userfiles/images/Say%20NO%20to%20Fraternity%20and%20Sororities%20party.jpg" style="width: 220px; height: 150px; float: right; margin: 5px;" />useless causes. Only thing they is most probably immoral, unethical or illegal. Even if you are a clean guy but being a part of a Greek house, you will be frowned upon. It is a different story if anyone would dare to say it on your face. With the reasons mentioned following you will get a clear idea why these houses are bad to society and considered wicked.</span></span></div> <div> </div> <div> <hr /> </div> <h2> <span style="color:#ff8c00;"><span style="font-size:24px !important;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><strong>Hazing and Fighting</strong></span></span></span></h2> <div> </div> <div> <span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">I was really scared just by hearing the stories of how they select new members for the house. Joining a fraternity or sorority, <img alt="" src="/ckfinder/userfiles/images/Say%20NO%20to%20Fraternity%20and%20Sororities%20hazing%201.jpg" style="width: 230px; height: 144px; float: right; margin: 5px;" />be ready to be humiliated to the extremest of the levels. You must have hear of ragging, it is also called hazing and that is the most favorite thing frat boys but girls in sororities are also second to none. New members are forced to do things that no person on right would ever do at least not the one with self-respect. Greek house ragging includes forcing to drink a great amount of alcohol, results could be fatal, and sexual harassment. Here you can see some <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/fraternity-hazing/" target="_blank"><span style="color:#0000ff;">Example of Fraternity Hazing</span></a>.</span></span></div> <div> </div> <div> <span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">It is not juniors, but seniors also have their own definition of enjoyment and fun. Mostly they are drunk or high and physically fight each other (not the one with pillows). When they are not in their conscious they also do many other stupid things like jumping or falling from roof and balconies is very famous. Some other stupid things I read were so extreme that I can’t write on an educational platform like studyabroad.pk.</span></span></div> <div> </div> <div style="margin-left: 39pt;"> <span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">· <strong>SEE ALSO:</strong><em> <a href="https://studyabroad.pk/news-event/will-you-face-ragging-while-studying-abroad-4747" target="_blank"><span style="color:#0000ff;">Will You Face Ragging While Studying Abroad</span></a></em></span></span></div> <div> </div> <div> <hr /> </div> <h2> <span style="color:#ff8c00;"><span style="font-size:24px !important;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><strong>Extreme Alcoholism</strong></span></span></span></h2> <div> <span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">If there is no alcohol, it is not a Greek house. That is the place where most ethical youngster back away. Alcohol is not a <img alt="" src="/ckfinder/userfiles/images/Say%20NO%20to%20Fraternity%20and%20Sororities%20hazing.jpg" style="width: 220px; height: 124px; float: right; margin: 5px;" />good thing and taboo for many societies and Muslims. Even most liberal societies underage drinking is frowned upon. You will find excessive underage drinking too in these houses. They are mostly drunk and do stupid things as discussed above as it is considered a part of tradition. For the newbies, the alcoholism is a little more of a problem since this will definitely be in the process of pledging them.</span></span></div> <div> </div> <div> <hr /> </div> <h2> <span style="color:#ff8c00;"><span style="font-size:24px !important;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><strong>Racism and Sexism</strong></span></span></span></h2> <div> <span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Last but the biggest reason of all, Greek houses mostly are Racist and Sexist. They are not liked for a reason. I read a report according to which Fraternity boys are 3 times more likely to commit a rape and Sorority girls are about 3 times more likely to be raped. This is because of their irresponsible, wild and unethical behaviors.</span></div> <div> </div> <div> <span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">You will find racism in fraternities and sororities especially at the time of pledging. Most fraternities and sororities have rules of not letting a person become a member if they don’t like him or her. They may reject you based on your skin color, height, body, looks, nationality and language. One student said on an online platform that he was rejected because they thought his biceps were not big enough.</span></span></div> <div> </div> <div> <span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">In addition, sexism is motto of these Greek houses. You know when they have parties they keep a ratio of 1:8 male : female and rate females based on their looks from 1 to 10 and only let those enter that are 7 or higher. Sorority girls are more likely to be invited to these parties and these girls always do. </span></span></div> <div> </div> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"> <p dir="ltr" lang="en"> A very shockingly racist party thrown by Queen's students happened and the photos made me feel sick to my stomach.
