No More Student Visa To Skilled Worker Visa In UK

The government of the United Kingdom is looking forward to reducing the net immigration rate by implementing changes to the student visa route. The United Kingdom is a popular destination among students for studying abroad. Due to its academic excellence, research opportunities, a wide range of globally recognized universities, and world-class teaching faculty, a significant proportion of students apply for studies in the United Kingdom every year. However, with the changing economy of the UK, there have been different speculations regarding the new implementations for students in the United Kingdom.

The officials released a notification earlier this year stating that the United Kingdom received a record high of 606,000 immigrants last year. Since the statistics have been released, the government of the United Kingdom has started to take measures to control the rising numbers. The possible reasons for rising immigration rates could be the result of a large number of students bringing their dependents and the UK schemes for Hong Kong and Ukraine.

Restrictions To Cut Net Immigration Implemented Within UK

The government of the United Kingdom has implemented new restrictions to cut the net immigration rate.

The significant implementations include banning international students from bringing their dependents to the United Kingdom on all, with the exception of the post-graduate research routes.

Moreover, the government look forward to banning people from using student visa as a shortcut tool to work in the UK premises. International students will be further allowed to change their student visa to a study visa once they complete their education.

Immediate Implementation Of New Immigration Rule In UK

The restrictions were expected to be imposed from January 2024 session. However, as per the latest information, on July 17th, 2023, the home office has restricted international students from changing their study visa to work visa without completing their education. There has been no ultimatum or deadline by the government, and the decision has been implemented immediately to control the net immigration rate.

UK Government Has Raised The Salary Of Skilled Workers

The United Kingdom government has also reaffirmed its dedication to the International Education Strategy, which is crucial in boosting the UK's economy through the financial support that international students can provide. The government looks forward to proposing furthermore implementations to balance the net immigration rates in the country. One of the many proposals includes increasing the salary of the main skilled work visa to £38,000, which could lead to a cut down of immigration numbers by 54,000.
