Description

The Impact of the pandemic is gradually affecting the whole world as much negative impact of online classes on students can be seen through the world. International students in Australia are going through a tough time as they are opting for vocational jobs as compared to desired aspirational study fields due to Impact of distance learning on students.

Impact of distance learning on students

Morgan Vella, a College student of Year 12 of Kyabram P-12 Australia, express his grief as most of his friends have given up on completing their VCE(Victorian College Education certification) as they believe the program has unattainable education targets due. As Australian year 12 students are taking year study gaps and thinking about delays for University study as they do not believe their educational institutions and universities opening anytime soon, therefore, creating an environment of ambiguity and confusion.

International students in Australia

As the Australian international borders are currently closed, many international students in Australia are rethinking their career choices as they are not experiencing the same situation and feeling of attending proper education in real life, including having face to face classes due to the Impact of distance learning on students.

International students also are not looking forward towards studying in Australia as only the privileged can afford their once in a lifetime education trip back and forth among international countries like Europe, USA and Australia

Students of Australia are complaining regarding the student course want. They want alteration in their course work that is in accordance with covid situation. Still, State government of Victoria Curriculum assessment authority (VCAA) has declined to curriculum changes, but further Australian students are petitioning for the cancellation for exams altogether as they cannot achieve the demanded targets of their course work due to changing covid 19 situation and lockdowns.

Remote learning has also had changed students future ambitions and career decisions as many students who wanted to become full-time vet having to join the army while others who have wanted to pursue science have joined the police force. Many students are also considering taking study gap due to the troubling pandemic condition.

Remote learning negative impact

The Negative impact of online classes on students is becoming more apparent as more students are perusing careers that have stronger match skills towards specific industries as there are many reports of job loss in the media. Schools are showing increase in the number of school leavers, according to TCD(The Careers Department).

According to a recent Australian TCD survey, about 28% of students are thinking about taking a study break. Australian students are optimistic about returning to their positive and ambitious University and Campus life sometime in the future. Australian students are also complaining about the recent rise in art course fees to fund other study courses like science, engineering, match and nursing. Students of year 11 and 12 are feeling having loss of important potential opportunities in their life that they think will never return as they miss important milestones like celebrations and student camps. Student complain of lacking the real time connection of student interaction as most of zoom sessions, students do not share their live camera and practical study is not the same as one on one classroom experience.

International student enrollment in Australia has fallen to 12.5% in comparison to last year while higher education commencement dropped to 23%. It is expected that prospective students opinions regarding seeking higher education will change towards competitor countries like United Kingdom, USA and Canada if Australian border closure continues.
