Description

Under the American Rescue Plan Act’s Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF III), the US Department of Education announces more than $36 billion in emergency grants for higher education. Under this scheme, international students are also going to be facilitated for the first time. The department announces that the funding that is going to be apportioned for over 5,000 international students is more than double the emergency relief fund that is available for students and higher educational institutes that are already sanctioned under the Coronavirus Response Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) relief legislation and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES).

US secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona explains that these funds are critical to ensuring that all of our local students have the opportunity to enroll, continue their studies, and pursue their careers. Among the national students, students who are disproportionately impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic are the particular ones in this case.

This action will allow thousands of institutions to provide direct relief to students who need it. The US secretary of Education Miguel Cardona further said that with this action they will not only able to recover from the pandemic but can also build back even stronger than before.

How Students Will Be Subsidized Under This Relief Action

Withholding and reengagement of students can be possible through the projects or actions that support mental health and virtual services. However, preventing the spread of the Covid-19 can also be possible through this initiative.

Unlike the previous relief fund, this relief fund scheme will also facilitate international students, DACA recipients and, US students on study abroad. Although the department emphasizes that the institutions make sure to offer the corona relief funds to students who really deserve this or show exceptional needs of it. Moreover, the institutions are encouraged by the departments that domestic students, especially undergraduate students, must be prioritized for this scheme or apportioned funds. However, students studying abroad will also be chosen for this relief scheme but they have to meet the criteria set for the students with exceptional needs.

The deputy executive director at NAFSA, Jill Allen Murray told the media that the Biden administration allows all the international students for the corona relief fund. Students are not evaluated or selected based on their nationality but on their financial needs.

Justin Draeger, the president of The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators said that it was not only legally questionable but it was a moral failing to deny the emergency grants to DACA and undocumented students. Draeger further said that he is thankful and relieved to see that amended.

Know The Facts About The Higher Education In The USA

Study abroad in the USA is a dream of many students who have the wish to start their higher education career abroad. The USA is the most welcoming study abroad destination and the idea of this statement can be taken from the fact that every year millions of international students enroll in the various higher education institutes located in the USA. Those who want to know any information or fact about the USA as a study abroad destination are welcomed by the Studyabroad.pk to get the complete consultancy to start their higher education journey from the USA. Students are advised to fill the given assessment form to know their status that to what extent they are and how they can start their application for study in the USA.
