Description

Replacing the Erasmus Scheme post-Brexit, the United Kingdom Government provided an alternative by the name of Turing Scheme. Named after UK’s most famous Mathematician and Computer Scientist, Alan Turing, The Turing scheme aims to provide the British student a chance to study abroad. Here is further information for international students regarding the Turing Scheme.

What is Turing Scheme?

This scheme is an international study and work program offered by the British Government for UK students to give them the opportunity to complete a part of their studies in foreign countries. The Turing scheme is a £100 million study and work program. Around 35,000 students will be provided with funds for international study and work programs starting from September, 2021. This scheme specially focus on attracting students from humble and disadvantaged backgrounds, the Turing scheme aims to empower young people and helps in leveling up the socio-economic inequalities.

United Kingdom’s Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson said “We now have the chance to expand opportunities to study abroad and see more students from all backgrounds benefit from the experience. These opportunities will benefit both our students and our employers, as well as strengthening our ties with partners across the world."

According to the UK Government, British students were not getting advantage from the Erasmus student exchange programs, as only 3% British students benefitted from this study and work placement program outside of the European Union.

Through this scheme students can now get the opportunity to study in some top ranking universities around the globe, some of these schools and educational institutions are Yale, Harvard, the University of Toronto, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). As of now very less students from UK get the chance to study at the prestigious educational institutions thus with the help of this scheme those studying in British educational institutions can now get a chance to apply for these prestigious schools.

Who can apply for Turing Scheme?

Schools, Colleges, and the institutes which provide higher education can provide for the Turing scheme on behalf of their pupils and students. If you belong to any of these organizations you can take part in this scheme whether you are full time or part time student.

Funding through this program can vary depending upon which country you are visiting so it is better to be in complete contact with your provider.

Although this scheme can be a great opportunity for many international students but there are a few facts to take into consideration. Firstly there are health and other medical issues to be taken into consideration. As this program requires a lot of travelling for students, so this can be a problem during this time when the Corona Virus pandemic is in full swing. Many have suggested that travel should be done by train for the time being and all the necessary precautionary measures should be taken including quarantine and Vaccination should be made compulsory so that this program should be continued without facing any difficulty.
