The market for International students in UK has changed dramatically in the last 1 year such that changes introduced by UKBA have led to a drop of 9% in applications which has dented the industry.
This article is aimed to address the queries we get from our student customers who want to go abroad to the United Kingdom in order to pursue their education at various levels.
Where to study
The market for UK is mainly divided among A-rated colleges, Highly-trusted colleges and Public funded Universities and colleges. 
Is English required?
The current policy has made IELTS a pre-requisite for admission which was not the case previously before April 21, 2011 and the minimum level required varies from 4.0-4.5 at various institutes
Can you work?
In addition working rights have been revoked from all A-rated and Highly trusted colleges for all students. There are selective Public funded colleges where students can work for 10 hours and 20 hours for all Public funded Universities. 
Is low fee really an attraction?
The clamp-down has led to cutting of fees, discounts and special packages by A-rated colleges which are mostly being run by Pakistani&rsquo;s and Indians to maintain the enrollment. However as per UKBA, most of the colleges which do not attain Highly-trusted status by April 2012 will be closed. Thus students are forewarned to plan carefully where exactly they attend college. 
Can my spouse/dependent work?
In addition further changes announced on July 4, 2011 made it impossible for dependents of Students to work in the UK for any degree below Masters. 
Why these changes were implemented?
These changes have been made in the light of requirements for skilled employees and the shortage of jobs in the UK market. This was highlighted in form of the riots which took place in London and spread across the UK due to lack of jobs.
The economic recession has triggered a host of changes globally of which tightening of immigration and visa policies are few of the main measures. 
Summary
The UK remains a prospective market for students but the UKBA is now interested in ONLY entertaining those students who really want to study and whose main purpose is not to enroll in a ghost school while working full time.
